  6. File Investigator identifies over 330 types of files by content
  7. rather than filename extension.  It extracts information out of
  8. many file types: image resolutions, sampling rates, document
  9. titles, etc..  Background information on each file type is
  10. provided.  With this utility, you can identify files that
  11. Windows doesn't recognize, correct a wrong file extension, and
  12. find files faster.  The FIPROP.EXE program returns an error
  13. level identifying a file, for BBS file screening.

  57. INSTALLATION

  59.   From a floppy disk:

  61.     Follow the installation instructions provided on the 
  62.     floppy disk label.

  65.   From a downloaded archive:

  67.     If you downloaded a .ZIP file, then you will need to use
  68.     PKUnzip (or other Zip utility) on the file.
  69.  
  70.     Steps:
  71.       1. Copy the archive file to a temporary directory.
  72.       2. Run PKUNZIP.EXE on the archive.
  73.          Ex: >PKUNZIP FI150SW.ZIP
  74.       3. Run FI150SW.EXE
  75.       4. Answer each of the installation prompts.
  76.       5. If prompted for a password, then type it in lower case letters.
  77.       6. Delete the files that were expanded from the archive to
  78.          your temporary directory.

  81.     If you downloaded a .EXE file, then you simply run the
  82.     self-extracting archive file.  It takes care of the rest.

  84.     Windows Explorer example:
  85.       1. Find the directory that the archive file was downloaded to.
  86.       2. Double click on the archive file.  (ex: FI150SW.EXE)
  87.       3. Answer each of the installation prompts.
  88.       4. If prompted for a password, then type it in lower case letters.

  90.     Windows Start example:
  91.       1. Click the 'Start' button on the Windows Task Bar.
  92.       2. Click the 'Run...' menu option.
  93.       3. Type '<download dir path>\FI150SW.EXE'.

  101.     Notes: You can rename the .EXE archive file to .ZIP and use any

  108. REQUIREMENTS
  109.  
  110.   File Investigator requires MS Windows 95/98 or MS Windows NT 4.0.
  111.   While it may work with MS Windows NT 3.x or MS Windows 3.x + Win32s,
  112.   they have not been tested and are not guaranteed to work.

  114.   File Investigator Properties fits on a 640x480 screen, but File
  115.   Investigator File Find requires a 800x600 (small font) or larger
  116.   screen resolution in order to be fully visible.
  117.  
  118.   File Investigator Directoryfor Windows requires Windows 95 OEM Service
  119.   Release 2 (Win95b), or a later version of Windows, to run, because older OS
  120.   versions do not support the GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() function.  This function is
  121.   required to correctly handle hard drives greater than 2 GigaBytes in size.

  661.     A: You may have either downloaded the wrong archive file, or misunderstood
  662.        the password.  There are three different versions of File Investigator:

  664.        (non-upgrade).  Each of these archives have different passwords.
